Mexicanas Abroad in the Americas: Recaps & Previews – Week 49

After a crazy week in NWSL that saw the teams playing multiple games in a week, the week before the international break saw each team play one game. Most of the players got playing time, with the exception of Sabrina Flores who is still reportedly injured, and Diana Ordoñez, who was an unused sub.

Liga Nacional de Fútbol Femenino (Guatemala)

CSD Suchitepéquez (Perla Morones and Verónica Jiménez) beat Huehuetecas 4-2 on Sunday, April 3rd. With the win, Suchitepéquez is comfortably atop the Group A2 table with 17 points, four more than Club Deportivo Xela.

National Women’s Soccer League (United States)

Katie Johnson subbed on in the 76th minute for Jodie Taylor and contributed seven touches, completed three-for-three in passes, and got one shot on goal in San Diego Wave’s 4-2 win over Angel City FC on Saturday, April 2nd. Wave FC are in third place in the West with four points, three behind both Portland and OL Reign and three above Angel City. Their next match is at Portland against the Thorns on Sunday, April 17th.

María Sánchez was subbed out in the 78th minute for Makamae Gomera-Stevens after contributing 35 touches, completing 9 of 14 passes, and getting a shot in the Houston Dash’s 2-0 loss to the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, April 2nd. Houston are in last place in the Central with three points, two behind Racing Louisville and four behind both the Red Stars and KC Current. Their next match is in Kansas City on Friday, April 15th.

Jimena López played all 90 minutes, contributing 78 touches, completing 30 of 39 passes, getting a shot on target out of two total shots, and picking up a yellow card in OL Reign’s 1-0 win over the Portland Thorns on Saturday, April 2nd. OL Reign are atop the West with seven points, tied with the Thorns on points, three over San Diego and six over Angel City. Their next match is on Thursday, April 14th when they host San Diego.

Sabrina Flores was not on the Gotham FC roster during their 1-0 loss against the North Carolina Courage on Sunday, April 3rd, still out with an injury. Gotham are in third place in the East with five points, one behind the Washington Spirit and three behind the Courage. Their next match is hosting the Spirit on Sunday, April 17th.

Diana Ordoñez was an unused sub in the North Carolina Courage’s 1-0 win over Gotham FC on Sunday, April 3rd. The Courage are in first place in the East with eight points, two over Washington, three over Gotham, and seven above Orlando. They’ll play Orlando away on Saturday, April 16th.

Karina Rodríguez was subbed out in the 69th minute for Amber Brooks after contributing 54 touches and completing 40 of 48 passes in the Washington Spirit’s 4-1 win over the Orlando Pride on Sunday, April 3rd. Washington are second in the East, two behind North Carolina, one above Gotham, and five above Orlando. Their next match is at Gotham on Sunday, April 17th.
