FutMexNation is back to bring you the highlights of this past weekend’s Mexicans Abroad action.

La Liga

Hector Herrera finally returned to El Cholo’s Starting Eleven and had himself a solid match against Osasuna. Los Colchoneros would end up easily defeating Osasuna by a score of 3-0 and are positioned in fourth place fighting alongside FC Barcelona for that final Champions League spot. In the 90 minutes that Herrera played he managed to win ten duels, had three long passes, two clearances and two interceptions. Along with that he had 47 precise passes and a 78% passing accuracy. This is only the third start for Herrera this season and is the first one since October 28th of last year. With a solid performance this weekend let’s hope it was convincing enough for El Cholo Simeone to keep Herrera in Atletico’s rotation of active players.

Eredivisie

Edson Alvarez nears his second league title with Ajax after defeating Wilhem 1-0 and pulling five points ahead of their rivals PSV. In what was looking like a thrilling two-way race for the Eredivisie is slowly becoming a one horse lead and it is Ajax’s title to lose. While it wasn’t one of Ajax’s easiest wins they managed to come through and handle business. Edson played 64 minutes in his team’s victory, where he had a key pass, completed four long passes, and won three duels along with having 33 precise passes and a 83% passing accuracy. He continues to be a solid piece for this Ajax team and they will now shift their focus from league play to the Champions League as they will travel to Portugal to take on Benfica in their Round of 16 matchup.
