Mexicanas Abroad: Recaps & Previews – Week 44

Lots of news this past week as almost all leagues are back in action, the exceptions being Sweden’s Damallsvenskan and Denmark’s Kvindeliga playing preseason friendlies and the NWSL in the US getting ready to start their training camps. So without further adieu…

Primera División Femenina (Costa Rica)

Karina Santana and Zoe Tapia were both subbed on during the second half as Suva Sports suffered a 3-0 loss to Sporting FC in the Torneo Copa Promerica on Friday, February 4th. Suva sits in last place in Group B with 3 points, tied with Municipal Pérez Zeledon and three behind Alajuelense and Sporting FC. Their next match is a league match on Sunday, February 13th when they host Guerreros del Sur.

Kvindeliga (Denmark)

Brøndby lost 4-0 to Lokomotiv Moscow on Monday, February 7th in a friendly in Turkey. It’s not known if Daniella Díaz played. Brøndby’s next publicly scheduled match is a friendly against Vittsjö on Sunday, February 27th, although they reportedly have another friendly on Thursday, February 10th in Turkey.

FA Women’s Super League (England)

Silvana Flores was not on the game day roster as Tottenham beat Brighton & Hove Albion 4-0 on Sunday, February 6th. She was however on the U21s roster as they played against Chelsea’s U21s and matched up against her sister Tatiana Flores. Chelsea’s first team beat Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday, February 6th. Tottenham’s first team sits in fourth place with 24 points, one behind Manchester United, four behind Chelsea, and six behind Arsenal. Chelsea’s next match is hosting Arsenal on Friday, February 11th while Tottenham’s next match is at Birmingham City on Sunday, February 13th.

Division 1 Féminine (France)

Emily Alvarado played all 90 minutes in Stade de Reims’ 4-3 win over Issy FF on Saturday, February 5th. Reims is in seventh place with 17 points, three behind sixth place Bordeaux and 22 behind first placed Lyon. Their next match is Sunday, February 27th at home against Lyon.

Liga Nacional de Fútbol Femenino (Guatemala)

CSD Suchitepéquez beat CF Gardenias Coatepeque 4-0 in their season opener on Saturday, February 5th. It’s unclear if Perla Morones or Verónica Jiménez played for Suchitépequez.

Eredivisie Vrouwen (Netherlands)

Anika Rodriguez was in the starting lineup as PSV was set to host Ajax on Sunday, February 6th but the match was called off due to poor field conditions. The match has not been rescheduled as of yet. PSV still sits in third place with 26 points, four behind Ajax and seven behind first place Twente, although Twente has played one more game than both PSV and Ajax. PSV’s next scheduled match is at VV Alkmaar on Friday, February 11th.

Campeonato Nacional Feminino (Portugal)

Myra Delgadillo played all 90 minutes as SC Braga lost 2-0 to Maritimo Da Madeira on Sunday, February 6th. Braga sit in fourth place with seven points, two behind Sporting CP and eight behind league leaders Benfica. Braga’s next match is a Taça de Portugal Feminino fourth round match against Benfica on Saturday, February 12th. Their next league match is Sunday, February 27th at home against Sporting.

Liga Iberdrola (Spain)

Itzel González was on the bench for Sevilla as they drew Deportivo Alavés 1-1. Sevilla sits in seventh place with 28 points, four behind Real Madrid and 35 behind first placed Barcelona. Sevilla plays at Atlético Madrid on Saturday, February 12th.

Kenti Robles played all 90 minutes as Real Madrid beat Real Betis 1-0 on Sunday, February 6th. Real Madrid are in sixth place with 32 points, four behind Athletic Club and 28 behind league leaders Barcelona. Real Madrid’s next match is at Eibar on Sunday, February 13th.

Pamela Tajonar was not on the game day roster as Villarreal beat Rayo Villecano 1-0 to Real Sociedad on on Sunday, February 6th. Villarreal is in thirteenth place with 17 points, one behind Valencia and one over Sporting Huelva and Eibar, the latter of whom is in the relegation zone. Villarreal’s next match is on Sunday, February 13th when they face UDG Tenerife on the Canary Islands.

Sofía Álvarez subbed in for Esther Martín-Pozuelo in the 85th minute as Valencia beat Levante 2-0 on Sunday, February 6th. Valencia are in 12th place with 18 points, one ahead of Villarreal and two behind Madrid CFF. Valencia’s next match is hosting Deportivo Alavés on Sunday, February 13th.

Damallsvenskan (Sweden)

Bri Campos signed with Umeå IK in the offseason. They have an upcoming friendly against Sundsvall on Saturday, February 12th. Their next official match is a Svenska Cupen match against Bollstanäs SK on Sunday, February 27th, and their Damallsvenskan season starts on Sunday, March 27th at home against Häcken.

National Women’s Soccer League (United States)

Not much to report here, as the teams are all starting to report back to training camp. We did get word that María Sánchez and the Houston Dash will be playing Pumas in a friendly on March 2nd though.
