Mexicanas Abroad: Recaps & Previews – Week 43

It’s been good week following these women as they make their marks abroad. Watching players like Anika Rodríguez and Myra Delgadillo become integral parts of good teams has been both fun to watch and hopefully serving as inspiration for relatively newer players in Europe like Emily Alvarado, Itzel González, and Sofia Álvarez, whose careers on the Old Continent are just getting started.

Primera División Femenina (Costa Rica)

Karina Santana played the entire match and Zoe Tapia was subbed out during the first half as Suva Sports suffered a 3-0 loss to Alajuelense on Sunday, January 30th. Suva sits in last place in Group B with 3 points, tied with Municipal Pérez Zeledon and three behind Alajuelense and Sporting FC. Their next match is on Friday, February 4th when they take on Sporting FC in the Torneo Copa Promerica.

Kvindeliga (Denmark)

Brøndby lost 3-2 to Kristianstads DFF on Sunday, January 30th. It’s not known if Daniella Díaz played. Brøndby’s next scheduled match is a friendly against Vittsjö on Sunday, February 27th.

FA Women’s Super League (England)

Silvana Flores was not on the game day roster as Tottenham lost 3-1 in the FA Women’s Cup fourth round to Leicester City on Sunday, January 30th. Their next match is a FA WSL Cup semifinal match at Manchester City on Thursday, February 3rd. Their next league match is Sunday, February 6th when they host Brighton & Hove Albion.

Division 1 Féminine (France)

Emily Alvarado played all 90 minutes in Stade de Reims’ 4-0 win over Monaco in the Coupe de France Féminine Round of 16 match on Saturday, January 29th. Their next league match is Saturday, February 5th at home against Issy FF.

Liga Nacional de Fútbol Femenino (Guatemala)

CSD Suchitepéquez beat Tunecas FC 4-0 in a friendly on Saturday, January 29th. It’s unclear if Perla Morones or Verónica Jiménez played for Suchitépequez. Their first league match will be on Saturday, February 5th or Sunday, February 6th when they host CF Gardenias Coatepeque.

Eredivisie Vrouwen (Netherlands)

Anika Rodriguez contributed an assist on Desiree van Lunteren’s goal in the 28th minute before being subbed off in the 66th minute for Leticia Moreno in PSV’s 6-0 win over IJFC in a KNVB Women’s Cup Round of 16 match on Saturday, January 29th. They’ll host Feyenoord in the Quarterfinal round on Saturday, February 26th. Their next league match is on Sunday, February 6th when they host Ajax.

Campeonato Nacional Feminino (Portugal)

Myra Delgadillo played all 90 minutes as SC Braga drew Torreense 1-1 on Saturday, January 29th. Braga are in fourth place in the league with seven points, two behind Sporting CP and Famalicão and five behind first place Benfica. Braga’s next match is away against Maritimo Da Madeira on Sunday, February 6th.

Liga Iberdrola (Spain)

Pamela Tajonar was not on the game day roster as Villarreal lost 4-1 to Real Sociedad on Saturday, January 29th. She was also not on the roster when Villarreal beat Sevilla 3-0 on Wednesday, February 2nd. Itzel González was however on the bench for Sevilla. Villarreal is in 14th place with 14 points, one over Sporting Huelva and the relegation zone. Sevilla is in seventh place with 27 points, two behind Real Madrid and one over Deportivo Alavés. Villarreal’s next match is on Sunday, February 6th when they host Rayo Villecano. Sevilla’s next match is at Deportivo Alavés on Sunday, February 6th.

Kenti Robles played 86 minutes, being subbed off for Lucia Rodríguez as Real Madrid beat Sevilla 3-1 on Saturday, January 29th. Itzel González was not on the roster for Sevilla in that match. Robles was subbed out in the 89th minute for Lucía Rodríguez in Madrid’s 3-1 win over Real Sociedad on Wednesday, February 2nd. Real Madrid are in sixth place with 29 points, four behind Athletic Club and 28 behind league leaders Barcelona. Real Madrid’s next match is hosting Real Betis on Sunday, February 6th.

Sofía Álvarez was not on the game day roster for Valencia as they lost 2-1 to Tenerife. Álvarez was also not on the game day roster as Valencia drew Rayo Vallecano 1-1 on Wednesday, February 2nd. Valencia are in 13th place with 15 points, one ahead of Villarreal and one behind Eibar. Valencia’s next match is hosting Levante on Sunday, February 6th.
