Mexicanas Abroad: Recaps & Previews – Week 36

The Mexicanas Abroad have their first champion of the year with Karina Rodríguez and the Washington Spirit winning the NWSL Championship. While she wasn’t on the game day roster for the Spirit’s final match, Rodríguez played in four games for the Spirit after being drafted out of UCLA. As Angel City FC and San Diego Wave FC get set for the expansion draft, playing time may open up for Rodríguez either with the Spirit or with one of the new franchises.

Kvindeliga (Denmark)

Daniella Diaz was not on the game day roster as Brøndby lost to Fortuna Hjørring 4-1 on Sunday, November 21st. Brøndby finished third in the Kvindeliga regular season with 25 points, and classified for Championship Round, which consists of the top six teams in the league. While the Championship Round schedule hasn’t been released yet, Brøndby does have a Danish Cup match against Fortuna Hjørring scheduled for Saturday, March 5th.

FA Women’s Super League (England)

Silvana Flores was not on the game day roster as Tottenham lost 1-0 to West Ham on Sunday, November 21st. Spurs are fourth on the table, one point behind Brighton & Hove Albion and eight points behind Arsenal. Their next match is away at Aston Villa on Sunday, December 12th.

Division 1 Féminine (France)

Emily Alvarado played all 90 minutes in Stade de Reims suffered a 7-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday, November 21st. Reims is in eighth place with eight points, two behind seventh place Dijon and 19 behind first place Lyon. Their next match is on Saturday, December 4 when they host Soyaux-Charente.

Liga Nacional de Fútbol Femenino (Guatemala)

CSD Suchitepéquez took a 3-1 lead in their home-and-away series against Unifut in the semifinals of the Guatemalan Liga Nacional Group A. It’s unclear if Perla Morones or Verónica Jiménez were in the starting lineup for Suchitépequez. The return leg is on Sunday, November 21st at Estadio Carlos Salazar Hijo in Mazatenango.

Eredivisie Vrouwen (Netherlands)

Anika Rodriguez was suspended from PSV’s match against Zwolle due to a red card she picked up in the previous match against Ajax. PSV tied Zwolle 1-1 on Sunday, November 21st. PSV is tied for fourth with Zwolle with 14 points, five behind Ajax and Feyenoord and six behind first place Twente. Their next match is hosting Feyenoord on Sunday, December 5th.

Liga Iberdrola (Spain)

Pamela Tajonar was an unused substitute as Villarreal drew Rayo Vallecano 2-2 on Sunday, November 21st. Villarreal are in last place with one point, four behind Rayo Vallecano and five behind Sporting Huelva and safety from relegation. Their next match is Sunday, December 5th when they host Real Madrid.

Kenti Robles came on in the 72nd minute for Lucia Rodríguez as Real Madrid drew Deportivo Alavés 1-1 on Sunday, November 21st. Real Madrid sit in tenth place with 14 points, one behind Sevilla and 18 behind first place Barcelona. Their next match is at Villarreal on Sunday, December 5th.

National Women’s Soccer League (United States)

Karina Rodríguez and the Washington Spirit are the 2021 NWSL Champions, defeating the Chicago Red Stars 2-1 in extra time. Rodríguez wasn’t on the Spirit’s game day roster, however Katie Johnson played all 120 minutes taking four shots in the losing effort.
