Mexicanas in College – April 2021 – Week 11

The NCAA Tournament bracket is out, with 48 teams participating in the tournament, which will be held in and around Cary, North Carolina with the first round starting on April 27th. The champions will be crowned on May 17th.

Montana (Alejandra Melendez)’s Big Sky Championship match against Northern Arizona was ruled “a no-contest due to COVID-19 protocols within NAU’s program” according to a press release, and Montana was “declared the tournament champion and will advance as the league’s automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Championship, to be held in the state of North Carolina beginning April 27.” Montana will face South Carolina.

Senior Ariel Diaz of Southern Miss was named the C-USA Offensive Player of the Year and named to the All-Conference First Team. Diaz ended her season with five goals in 739 minutes for the Golden Eagles.

Senior defender Karina Rodriguez of UCLA was named to the Pac-12 All-Conference First Team.

 

Thursday, April 15th

Andrea Sanchez played all 90 minutes as North Florida lost 1-0 to Liberty in the ASUN Championship semifinal.

Alejandra Melendez was not on the gameday roster as Montana beat Northern Colorado 2-1 in overtime of the Big Sky Conference Tournament semifinal.

Claudia Loredo was not on the gameday roster as Stephen F. Austin lost 2-0 to Southeastern Louisiana in the Southland Conference semifinal.

Ariel Diaz played 92 minutes as Southern Miss drew #25 Rice 0-0 but lost 5-3 on penalties in the C-USA Championship semifinal. Diaz converted her penalty for the Golden Eagles.

Sebelle Rojas was not on the gameday roster as Seattle beat Grand Canyon 3-2 in the Western Athletic Conference semifinal.

Friday, April 16th

Karina Rodriguez played 44 minutes and Maricarmen Reyes played 15 as #3 UCLA drew #19 Southern California 2-2 in a friendly. Isabel Loza and Alexa Gonzalez were not on the gameday roster for the Bruins and Trojans, respectively.

Yaneisy Rodriguez was not on the gameday roster as #24 Washington drew Washington State 0-0.

Alexia Delgado played 90 minutes and contributed a shot on goal, and Nicole Soto played 23 minutes and also contributed a shot on goal as Arizona State lost 2-0 to Arizona.

Saturday, April 17th

Sebelle Rojas was not on the gameday roster as Seattle lost 1-0 to Utah Valley in the Western Athletic Conference final.

Nayeli Diaz played 34 minutes and contributed an assist as Saint Mary’s College beat Loyola Marymount 3-0. Mia Villegas played 55 minutes and contributed a shot for LMU in the losing effort.

Marissa Vazquez played 59 minutes and contributed a shot as San Francisco beat Pacific 1-0. Melani Medina played for 10 minutes for Pacific in the effort.

Julissa Cisneros played 73 minutes and contributed two shots as Missouri beat Kansas 1-0. The lone goal of the game came off of free kick by Cisneros that was knocked in by a Kansas player.

Emily Alvarado made six saves as #7 Texas Christian beat Notre Dame 2-1. Luisa Delgado was not on the gameday roster for Notre Dame.

Veronica Avalos played 16 minutes as San Diego State lost 3-2 in overtime to New Mexico in the Mountain West Championship match. Clarissa Ramirez was not on the gameday roster for SDSU.
