Mexico Women’s Senior Squad Announces Upcoming Friendlies Against Costa Rica

After almost one whole year of inactivity, the Mexican Futbol Federation (FMF) announced the women’s senior team will have two friendlies against Costa Rica later this month to kick off their 2021 campaign.

The first will be on Saturday, February 20th at 1 PM CST (11 AM PST) at the historic Estadio Azteca (for the first time in 14 years) and the second will be on Tuesday, February 23rd also at 1 PM CST (11 AM PST) at Centro de Alto Rendimiento (CAR).

Mexico’s last official matches took place in March of 2020 during the Cyprus Cup, with their last match against Czech Republic taking place on March 11th, 2020 – just before the pandemic and lockdowns officially started.

Monica Vergara’s first camp last month consisted of players in the Liga MX Femenil and those based in the United States only, but these friendlies seem to be proving another statement, with some key europeas called up as well.
