Today, the Mexican Football Federation revealed Gerardo Martino’s list for the Mexico national selections’ September friendlies.

The list, which features 31 players in total, indicates a return to the national selection for the first time since March for some of El Tri‘s biggest stars from an array of personal and medical (injury) matters, including Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, Hector Herrera, and Jesus Manuel ‘Tecatito’ CoronaEdson AlvarezHirving Lozano, Miguel Layun, and Marco Fabian.

The list appears to be oriented to preparing El Tri toward its Nations League fixtures which begin in October. Although many of their games, including El Tri‘s opener against Bermuda, appear easy on paper, failing to earn their obligated results in the Nations League could see El Tri be forced to take the nearly impossible “elimination tournament path” in FIFA World Cup qualifiers rather than more straightforward double-round robin “Hexagonal path”.

While the list features many players who changed clubs and countries in the summer, Diego Lainez, who is a part of Real Betis’ plans for the 2019-20 La Liga season, is a notable omission.

El Tri will convene after Sunday, September 1 and travel first to Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey to take on the United States on Friday, September 6 and then travel to San Antonio, Texas to take on an Argentina side without Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, and Dario Benedetto.
