Mexicans Abroad: Chicharito Scores, Vela Breaks Records and Edson Debuts

Welcome to our weekly highlight of all things ‘Extranjeros.’

It was another week in the leagues abroad and here are the key points you might’ve missed from this weekend from our favorite Aztecs:

Premier League

Chicharito Scores for West Ham

After having a close but late chance to score in West Ham’s tough 5-0 loss against Manchester City, Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez got his goal in the second match of the season against Brighton. Given recent summer signing Sèbastien Haller’s absence from the Starting XI that match, Chicharito proved to be a worthy asset for the team. In true No. 9 fashion, Chicharito’s movement off the ball before eventually scoring the goal is a testament to his manager of what he can do when given the opportunity.

NEXT MATCH: Sat, August 24th against Watford (EPL Season Match)

Raul and Wolves Dominate Europa League Qualifiers and Fight in the EPL

Raul’s run with Wolves continues to be a beautifully collaborative union. Despite subbing into the team’s second leg match against Pyunik in the 72nd minute, his brace in their first leg helped declare their dominance and Wolves ended up advance to the next round with an 8-0 aggregate score. Couple that with his strong performance against Manchester United Monday morning where a header attempt from the Mexican attacker just nearly missed going into goal and it appears like his second season with the team now as a permanent player is starting off on the right foot.

NEXT MATCH: Thurs, August 22nd against Torino (Europa League Qualifier)

MLS

Vela Breaks Record

Carlos Vela continues to dominate Major League Soccer both collectively with LAFC and individually despite many dismissing and resenting his move to the league. In LAFC’s 2-0 victory against Real Salt Lake, Vela opened up the score sheet for his team by converting the penalty and broke Sebastian Giovinco’s 2015 record for the highest combination of goals and assists in a season with 24 goals and 15 assists (31 total). Vela also now has a chance to break Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez’s record for most goals in a single season (31) with seven games left.

NEXT MATCH: Wed, August 21st against San Jose Earthquakes (MLS Season Match)

Everyone else:

LA Galaxy 2-2 Seattle Sounders (Jona Dos Santos played the full 90 mins, Uriel Antuna played, Efrain Alvarez in 18 but did not play)

Chicago Fire 2-0 Philadelphia Union (Marco Fabian played the full 90 mins)

Eredivisie

Edson Debuts for Ajax

It was only 17 minutes but Edson Alvarez finally had his debut for Ajax this past Saturday against VVV. He was brought him to a match already heavily dominated by Ajax, who were up 4-0 before VVV eventually got their single goal at the 89th minute but minutes are minutes. Edson getting his feet wet early with Ajax is important and will allow him to highlight his versatility to be a valuable option.

NEXT MATCH: Tues, August 20th against Apoel Nicosia (Champions League Qualifiers)

Everyone else:

Heracles 0-2 PSV (Erick Gutierrez played the full 90 mins)

Stars League (Qatar)

Hector Moreno Scores

There might not be any viable streams to watch Hector Moreno playing in Qatar but the Mexican striker recently scored for Al-Gharafa in a recent friendly and that news warranted some spotlight in these highlights.

NEXT MATCH: Thurs, August 22nd against Al-Shahania (Stars League Match)

The rest:

Atletico Madrid 1-0 Getafe (Hector Herrera in the 18 did not play)

Real Betis 1-2 Real Valladolid (Andres Guardado not in the 18 & Diego Lainez in 18 but did not play)

Celta Vigo 1-3 Real Madrid (Nestor Araujo played the full 90 mins)

Porto 4-0 Vitoria Setùbal (Tecatito played the full 90 mins)
