The Mexican National Team has officially announced the date when Javier Aguirre, Rafael Márquez, and their squad will face the United States at Estadio Akron. This will be Aguirre’s third match in charge during this new phase with “El Tri.”
A crowd of 46,355 fans is expected in Guadalajara, known as “La Perla Tapatía,” to witness another clash on Mexican soil between Mexico and the United States. The last time these teams met on home turf was on March 24, 2022, during the World Cup Qualifiers for Qatar, where the match ended in a 0-0 draw at Estadio Azteca.
Guadalajara joins Mexico City, Puebla, and Monterrey as cities in Mexico that have hosted a match between “El Tri” and the United States. This will be the first time these two teams face off in Guadalajara, making it the fourth city in the country to host this rivalry.
The match is set for Tuesday, October 15, when Mexico will host the U.S. team at Estadio Akron. This will be Javier Aguirre’s third match leading the Mexican National Team in this new era, following games against Canada and New Zealand.
The match time has yet to be announced, and ticket details have not been released. However, a packed stadium is expected as fans eagerly await this highly anticipated clash.
According to Ivar Sisniega, Executive President of the Mexican Football Federation, the Mexican National Team will begin playing their home matches at Estadio Akron while Estadio Azteca undergoes renovations. This move aims to establish a strong connection with Guadalajara ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
“Guadalajara will be one of the host cities for the 2026 World Cup, and we believe it’s important for this generation to feel that this is also our home,” said Sisniega.
Sisniega also confirmed that this won’t be the only time Mexico plays at Estadio Akron in the coming years.
“It’s crucial for the Mexican National Team to play at Estadio Akron multiple times before the 2026 World Cup,” he added.
One of the next potential matches where Mexico could play at Estadio Akron might be during the November FIFA window, when they will compete in the Concacaf Nations League Quarterfinals against an opponent yet to be determined.
