With only ten teams either in or could still be in La Liguilla, one might get the impression that there’s nothing to play for in the final round of the Apertura 2017 regular season. But five of the eight places in the Liguilla are still not secure. Any team from fourth place Morelia down to eighth place Atlas could find themselves out of the final phase of the Apertura if they do not get their required result to cement their place. And there’s the small business of Mexico’s most intense and authentic clasico taking place at the Estadio BBVA Bancomer on the swampy pitch, and a separate clasico poblano at Estadio Cuauhtemoc to start the round.
And during the weekend, Ascenso MX teams are already facing off in the return leg of their quarterfinal ties. This weekend, however, none of the return legs are being shown on U.S. TV.
