Jonathan Dos Santos’ Move to LA Galaxy Done

The transfer of Mexican midfielder Jonathan Dos Santos to the Los Angeles Galaxy has been completed.

The Galaxy have agreed on a $5 million deal to acquire Dos Santos from Spanish club Villarreal, according to a report from Goal.

The LA Galaxy have been in search of a big signing this summer. Rumors began circulating early about possible negotiations from numerous quality players including Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Andre-Pierre Gignac but Jonathan Dos Santos will provide the necessary addition to the team for the time being.

After months of rumors going back to January regarding Dos Santos, it was reported on Monday that the Galaxy and the Spanish club had agreed on a transfer fee followed by the announcement on Tuesday about finalization of terms.

The details of Dos Santos’ contract are still not known but the deal could see the Mexican player anywhere from a 2 to 3 million dollar range. He would be Galaxy’s third designated player–a rule under the MLS that classifies players that fall above the salary cap–alongside brother Giovani and Romain Alessandrini.
This would be the third time Jonathan will play on the same club team as Giovani Dos Santos. They started off together at Barcelona’s academy and then moved on together to play at Villarreal until Gio’s departure back in 2015.
