Why is everyone so happy right now? Why are people celebrating? I couldn’t help but overhear the whispering of joy around America this week. But again I ask, what is there to be joyful about?
The source of this joy, 16-year old Diego Lainez made his professional debut with Club America this week. First in the Copa MX match against Santos Laguna and then in the league against Club Leon. This is what has people excited.
I’d like to take a moment and point out that America did not win either of those matches. I’d like to point out that America lost against Santos Laguna in the Copa MX. I’d like to point out that America was not able to defeat the last place team of the league table while they were down to 10-men for more than three-quarters of the match.
And people still want to celebrate this week? Really? I don’t see any reasons to celebrate. America is performing at its worst since the epic crash of 2008 when we finished in last place of the league table.
Do you know what I see when I see a 16-year old kid making his debut with America?
I see America so weak in personnel that they have to start calling up kids to do the work grown men should be doing. I see poor management from the directors who did not bring in the quality players that America needs in order to meet its objectives. I also see a manager, Ricardo La Volpe so desperate for a positive headline – because his results can’t provide any positivity – that he is willing to risk our results by sending a kid into battle.
Now don’t misunderstand me. I do not wish Lainez any ill-will. This actually has nothing to do with Lainez. I would like to see this kid continue his development. And once is is a proven talent then I would welcome him in America with open arms.
America is not the team for unproven prospects. That is why we have teams Chivas, Pumas, Pachuca, Santos etc. Let them risk their results on unproven talents. Once players have proven their qualities then America scouts can bring them into the club. America is the best and deserves only the best.
All that matters at the end of the day is winning and right now America is not winning. As unpopular as this opinion might be, America can not rely on kids. There is a better chance at winning with proven and experienced players. In order to once again be great we have to go back to the glory days of signing big international superstars like Ivan ‘Bam-Bam’ Zamorano and Clausdio ‘El Piojo’ Lopez.
Let’s wake up and demand that our leaders Make America Great Again!
